Sony Ericsson CEO Nordberg: We shouldn't have ignore the iPhone

04 October 2011 - Sony Ericsson's Bert Nordberg looked back retroactively in an interview and said that his company should not have ignored Apple when they launched the iPhone back in 2007. He was not Sony Ericsson's CEO then, but told the WSJ, "It's safe to say that Sony Ericsson should have taken the iPhone more seriously when it arrived in 2007."

Sony Ericsson once dominated the cellphone and smartphone markets but has since slumped out of the top five. And despite Windows Phone 7's providing an alternative OS and perhaps even success, Nordberg pointed out that Sony Ericsson will not be working with Windows Phone 7 just yet.

"At this point I wouldn't feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn't as good as the one that we currently use," and that Sony Ericsson would remain with Android, but added "I am quite curious about Windows Phone."

He reinforced the company's decision to stay Android only, and commented "our Android strategy has been successful and the best choice we could have made."

Sony Ericsson has been slowly moving its transition to smartphones under Nordberg's tenure, and while they have managed to reverse its losses, but was brought back down by the unfortunate Japanese earthquake.
